Things to do for April 12, 2012

The Weekender

Thomas Jefferson, Street Hockey and Bacon

You’re only as good as your last weekend.

Thursday
Friday
Thomas Jefferson Turns 269
PRESIDENT’S DAY

Thomas Jefferson Turns 269

Tomorrow is Friday the 13th, so something weird is bound to go down. Like toasting-Thomas-Jefferson-in-a-Midtown-castle weird. It’s the third president’s big 2-6-9, so expect some overly excited history-buff types noshing on bites from Murphy’s at the open bar. And other people who just like partying in castles.

Saturday
A Street Hockey Competition at Meehan’s
GAME ON

A Street Hockey Competition at Meehan’s

Hockey is great, but you generally need an ice rink to play it. Occasionally, though, you just need shoes. And an Irish pub’s parking lot. You and four friends will don helmets and hockey sticks, and slam other guys down to get a puck in a net in this all-day tournament. So, still hockey.

A Vintage Market Party with Cold Beer
THROWBACK

A Vintage Market Party with Cold Beer

There’s an all-vintage decor and clothing show in a massive loft on Saturday. Maybe not the earth-shattering news you were hoping for... but there will be vintage Levi’s, antique-y chairs and girls in pointy-tipped glasses. Also: a DJ, food trucks and a PBR lounge with gratis beer. And there you’ll be.

Sunday
A Coke-Glazed Bacon Sandwich at the W
BACON OF AMERICA

A Coke-Glazed Bacon Sandwich at the W

On Sundays, you wake up reaching for bacon and missing a sock. The sock’s gone, but the Living Room’s new menu has an open-face bacon and cheese sandwich (with Georgia tome on sourdough). Oh yeah: the bacon’s been glazed in Coca-Cola. A rum and Coke should wash that down nicely.
