Windy. Damp. Yellow leaves.
Meatloaf everywhere.
It looks like hunkering-down weather has arrived.
And since no one hunkers like you hunker (you big hunkerer, you), we bring word of FOODease, a new gourmet grocer/wine shop for all your cold-weather culinary needs, opening tomorrow in Water Tower Place.
Of course, we’re assuming your winter diet includes lots of crispy fried chicken, chilled champagne and fresh sushi. (We only have your summer picnic diet to go by.) In any case, you’ll find them all here.
The whole thing’s from Lettuce Entertain You, and it’s what you’d get if you married Whole Foods’ prepared food aisle with a mini Fox & Obel. Then, just for the hell of it, grafted on a slick little European-style wine bar.
In fact. Wine bar... start there. They basically beg you to by sticking it right in front and boldly pouring riesling from a tap. After a quick glass, it’s a make-your-own-romantic-night-at-your-place adventure.
First, hit the sushi station for maki. Next stop: the deli case for baseball-sized chicken meatballs. Then load up on fried chicken, meatloaf and butternut squash ravioli at the hot entrée bar. There’s a salad bar, too. Ignore it. Go back for more meatloaf. Then it’s the wine room for the bubbly and finally a quick stop in the Chocolate Closet.
Your home truffle cabinet needs restocking.
