Tonight the Mavs begin a new season.
Which means you’re gonna need a spot to celebrate all those game-winning fadeaways by Dirk. Or a spot to escape those embarrassing losses to teams from South Beach.
Either way, we have just the place...
Introducing Pira, a new Latin-style lounge in the American Airlines Center, soft-opening tonight to serve as a distraction from all future Mavs and Stars games.
First of all, we should mention: this isn’t a “fan’s” hangout. This is for those times when the team is reminding you a little too much of the Shawn Bradley era... or if for some reason you have Mavs tickets but you’d rather be clubbing.
You’ll enter through the AAC or the street entrance marked by a flaming Pira sign. And you’ll step into a lounge that feels like a swanky Brazilian club meets the ESPN Zone: long strands of beads hanging from the ceiling, zebra fur chairs, red snakeskin banquettes and a DJ booth over the bar.
You can keep one eye on the game via eight flat-screens. And if the sight of Jason Kidd’s defense causes you to need some air, head to the patio, where you can grab a Mango Fire cocktail at the second bar and relax on a red sofa. Take your time... the club will be open until 2am on game nights.
But if you see a bunch of seven-footers trickling in, get concerned about this season.
