It’s that time of year again, when shopping for sunglasses becomes a full-on Sunset Strip party. Drop into Oliver Peoples tonight (or any Thursday this month) for gratis wine, a DJ and deep discounts on the house label, Paul Smith and Mosley Tribes. But maybe don’t wear them until morning.
You don’t need a reason to sneak out early tomorrow, but Whist at the Viceroy is giving you one anyway. This week is the launch of Al Forno Fridays, which, loosely translated, means “enticing new beer-and-pizza menu.” You’re thinking an Allagash White with a Wild Mushroom, Fontina, Speck and Thyme Pizza from the wood-fired oven by the pool.
Sure, Beacon is an Asian café—but it’s hard to argue with anybody who decides July is Taco Month. Pulled-Pork Tacos and Chinese Bao Tacos (pork belly, spicy mustard, cranberry chutney) are five bucks each—and they’ve rounded up some $5 wines from Spain, South Africa and Argentina. It’s the UN of taco dinners.

The totally new cocktail list is heavy on the old-school classics, like The Aviation, with gin and crème de violette, or a Moscow Mule served in a copper mug. You’re always inspired by vodka.
