Things to do for July 01, 2010

The Weekender

Whole Hogs, Champagne and Fantasylands

The weekend would like to propose a toast.

Thursday
Half-Price Champagne at Bluepointe
SPARKLES

Half-Price Champagne at Bluepointe

Tonight, between the usual intrepid cougar encounters at Bluepointe, you’ll be able to partake of the entire champagne list at half off. Turns out, a bottle of Taittinger parked next to some ossetra caviar is the Bluepointe equivalent of The Gilroy. Which, we’ve heard, is more powerful than the Ocean’s Thirteen version.

Thursday nights at Bluepointe, 3455 Peachtree Rd NE, 404-237-9070

Friday
Fantasyland Records Gets Some New Digs
HIGH FIDELITY

Fantasyland Records Gets Some New Digs

Ah yes, Fantasyland Records. Stalwart purveyors of all things vinyl for 34 years... and just getting warmed up. FR is packing up and moving into a brand-new location down the street, where you’ll still feel like you’re on the set of High Fidelity... just with slightly more affable vinyl gurus manning the aisles. And, of course, that new record store smell.

Saturday
A Whole Hog at Woodfire Grill
HOG WILD

A Whole Hog at Woodfire Grill

This weekend, pay homage to our founding fathers by heading to Woodfire Grill, where chef Kevin Gillespie will be roasting a whole hog as part of his three-course BBQ dinner. An extra $5 will also land you a bottomless stream of Sweetwater 420 and Georgia Brown. There’s a reason why Lincoln is on the $5 bill.

Jul 3, 5:30-10:30pm, $38, Woodfire Grill, 1782 Cheshire Bridge Rd, 404-347-9055, reservations required

Sunday
Costumes and Tailgating at the Road Race
PIT STOP

Costumes and Tailgating at the Road Race

Running the Peachtree Road Race is a brave and noble endeavor. That’s why this Fourth, starting at 5am, the Fur Buses are lining up streetside to show their respect by throwing a tailgate party with three DJs, rivers of beer and enough costumes to make you think it’s October 31. Or you could just wear your number.

DJs, Drafts and a Hot Dog Eating Contest
PUB-ING

DJs, Drafts and a Hot Dog Eating Contest

After the tailgate, make your way to the BookHouse Pub for some post-road race shenanigan-ing. They’ll be grilling up burgers, doling out draft specials and ushering in some DJs. Oh, and there’s also a hot dog eating competition. We’ll be sticking to spectator status on this one.
