Things to do for April 01, 2010

The Weekender

Quarter Beers, Skydiving and Bacon-Fat Popcorn

The weekend now has April Madness.

Thursday
Chili Cook-Off and Keg Party at Landmark
GIRL AGAINST BOYS

Chili Cook-Off and Keg Party at Landmark

The chefs of Boka, Landmark and Perennial go up against Stephanie Izard (the chef behind the Girl and the Goat) in a no-protein-barred chili death match. You'll have to help pick the winner (a tough job, we know), so they're tapping Dogfish Head kegs and offering 25-cent beers to keep your strength up.

New Booze at Damen Kitchen & Cellar
WINE DOWN

New Booze at Damen Kitchen & Cellar

The gourmet deli/sandwich shop, open since fall, finally lives up to the cellar part of its name by introducing a selection of international wines, each one under 20 bucks. Just in case your imported Italian prosciutto and French cheese were starting to get lonely.

Friday
New Beer and Duck-Fat Popcorn at Lush
DUCK, DUCK... BEER

New Beer and Duck-Fat Popcorn at Lush

There is no shortage of places for you to take new-to-town Stone Brewing beers for a free test sip this week. But keep one thing in mind: the party at Lush on Chicago Avenue is the only one offering duck-fat popcorn to go with your Arrogant Bastard. So that narrows down your options.

Parachute Season Begins
OH, CHUTE

Parachute Season Begins

Nothing says spring like hurling yourself out of an airplane at 14,000 feet, so we'd like to remind you that skydiving season beings today. To celebrate, Chicago Skydiving Center is offering discounts on your first jump—though, generally, parachuting instructions are one thing we don't recommend skimping on.

Sunday
Brunch at Longman & Eagle
EASTER EGGS

Brunch at Longman & Eagle

The Logan Square spot throws itself into the deep end of the brunch pool, by debuting its new service on Easter Sunday—because you'll undoubtedly need a PBR breakfast (two eggs, bacon, potatoes, a can of Pabst) after chasing bunnies all night.
