Things to do for February 18, 2010

The Weekender

Drinking Olympics, Taco Nights and Billy Corgan

The weekend lost track of your medal count.

Thursday
Billy Corgan at LaSalle Power Co.
JUST SMASHING

Billy Corgan at LaSalle Power Co.

It's not quite a reunion tour, but Billy Corgan and erstwhile Pumpkins drummer Matt Walker—who now busies himself by (literally) banging Morrissey's gong—join others for a one-off concert benefiting something called NorthShore University Health System's Integrated Medicine Program. We hope they're raising funds for a better name.

Feb 18, 7-10pm, $150/$300, LaSalle Power Co., 500 N LaSalle Blvd, 224-364-7220, limited tickets at the door

Winter Olympic Raffles at CrossRoads
NOW BOARDING

Winter Olympic Raffles at CrossRoads

Chicago speed skater Shani Davis is bringing home gold, so now it's your turn to bring home a little something. In addition to $5 margaritas and half-price ribs, this West Loop blues bar gives you a raffle ticket for snowboards and other Olympic swag every time you buy a drink. Speed drinking is really more your thing.

National Drink Wine Day
A GRAPEFUL NATION

National Drink Wine Day

We hope this National Drink Wine Day eventually catches on to fill the holiday lull between Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's. For now, David Burke's celebrates by letting a $110 2006 Alpha Estate (a quirky and bold red from Greece) go at half price...so remember to get them an NDWD card.

Sunday
Beer Curling and USA Hockey at Tin Lizzie
PUCKING AROUND

Beer Curling and USA Hockey at Tin Lizzie

Before the big USA vs. Canada showdown, this spot for Lincoln Park sports mayhem is hosting ongoing events during the day like Beer Curling (it involves a beer pong table and...funnily enough, beer), Mixed Pairs Chugging and Shot Ski, a three-person shot served from a single snow ski. Go for the gold.

Monday
$30 Prix Fixe at Mercadito
TACO FEVER

$30 Prix Fixe at Mercadito

Mexico is a prodigious land of varied culinary tradition—and also, good booze. This four-course feast shows its range with tacos (ancho-guajillo shrimp, grilled pineapple and chile de arbol salsa) and barbacoa (chicken, black bean hash and mint rice). Remember: tequila is an acceptable palate cleanser.
