Every weekend from now until Christmas, the chef behind Maison-Dixon is bringing his Southern-food pop-up to Foggy Bottom’s 51st State. This means Nashville hot chicken, chicken and waffles and other non-chicken things. Like a bologna-and-pimiento-cheese burger. See, we told you.
If you like hard-to-find Christmas beers, head to the Black Squirrel tomorrow, when the chef is passing out cookies as you try beers like Tröegs’s Mad Elf, Bison’s Gingerbread Ale and Evil Twin’s Christmas Eve at a New York City Hotel Room. Also head there if you like extremely long beer names.
This just in: drinking is still legal. So you might as well celebrate. Twice. First up: Jack Rose has burlesque dancers, cigar girls, period drinks and actual pre-Prohibition whiskeys. Twenty-four hours later, the DC Craft Bartenders Guild has live jazz and about 35 bartenders doing their thing.
Here we have ties sewn from more than a meter of silk in Lake Como, Italy. They’re always available online, but this weekend you can catch them in person at the Mayflower. Perhaps get one for the politician in your life. Or the dad. Or especially the politician dad.
Winter. A great time for an outdoor dinner date. Next week, the Iron Gate’s trellis-covered patio gets fire pits and heat lamps, and they’re debuting it on Monday with a happy hour party of small bites and hot drinks spiked with rye, absinthe and vermouth. Pack a scarf just in case.
