Five Spots to Have Breakfast Outdoors

You’ve probably done your share of alfresco lunches this year. But now that we’ve hit August, those do get a bit... steamy. Good thing there’s another way. Here now, five of your better outdoor peddlers of morning meals, no matter your situation. Or your companion(s).

Blue Duck Tavern
THE HOOKY PLAY

Blue Duck Tavern

Where you’re sitting: At this semi-sunken patio, ringed with brick and herb planters. And a fountain. And no, the sun won’t start hitting you until later in the day.
What you’re eating: Wood-fired pecan sticky buns. You’re going to need the sugar rush if you’re playing hooky all day.

Art and Soul
THE POWER PLAY

Art and Soul

Where you’re sitting: Post up at one of the communal high-top tables out front. Perfect for hosting that delegation from the African summit.
What you’re eating: The BLT Benedict, which gets bacon, watercress and tomato jam onto your benedict.

Degrees
THE SECRET PLAY

Degrees

Where you’re sitting: Make your way to the Ritz Georgetown’s Degrees restaurant. Then keep going to the discreet, walled-off Urban Garden courtyard.
What you’re eating: Sausage lollipops—pork sausage dipped in pancake batter, with cognac maple syrup.

B Too
THE PEOPLE-WATCHING PLAY

B Too

Where you’re sitting: Yeah, they’ve got a couple outdoor tables. But there’s construction nearby right now. Your better play: the Waffle Bar, looking out a big open window to 14th Street.
What you’re eating: Waffles, of course. Specifically, eggs cooked inside waffles and green-egg sandwiches cooked on a waffle iron.

The Grill Room at the Capella
THE MORNING-AFTER PLAY

The Grill Room at the Capella

Where you’re sitting: This year, there’s actually water in the C&O Canal. Take advantage at this row of tables that overlooks it.
What you’re eating: Stachowski chorizo, with smoked tomato sauce and baked eggs. Then just head back upstairs.
