Meet Your 2014 Anti-Resolutions

We’ve got to hand it to you: you’ve put forth a mighty effort to keep your resolutions over the last day. Time to give yourself a pat on the back and... start doing the opposite of those resolutions. Here’s a few options to get you on your way.

Anti-Resolution: A Scotch Milkshake
RESOLUTION: CUT OUT THE DAIRY

Anti-Resolution: A Scotch Milkshake

Milkshakes. Delicious. But not so warming for the dead of winter. Enter scotch. Specifically, 17-year-old Macallan, with which Ted’s Bulletin spikes its vanilla Millionaire Malt. And if you ever meet the Macallan distiller, don’t tell him you did this with his scotch.

Anti-Resolution: Spicy Bacon-y Pecan Pie
RESOLUTION: LEAVE PIES BEHIND

Anti-Resolution: Spicy Bacon-y Pecan Pie

By now, you’ve probably had your fill of pecan pie. Or wait, no you haven’t. Not when it comes enhanced with Benton’s bacon, Valrhona chocolate and cayenne pepper. Your Aunt Sally would be entirely mortified. Yes, that’s a good thing.

$24, available Jan 2 and on a rotating basis at Bayou Bakery, 1515 N Courthouse Rd, Arlington, VA, 703-243-2410

Anti: Two Days of Ultra-Luxe Hunting
RESOLUTION: BE KIND TO ANIMALS

Anti: Two Days of Ultra-Luxe Hunting

So the guy who owns the Greenbrier just bought two historic hunting plantations in Virginia. And he’ll happily give your group guns, licenses, guides and dogs for two days of hunting—one for goose, one for duck. Oh, and a chef will cook for you the whole time. Probably with duck.

$2,500, available Jan 17-18 via The Greenbrier, 1802 Upper Brandon Rd, Spring Grove, VA, 304-536-1110, ext 7283

Anti-Resolution: Donuts in Beer Form
RESOLUTION: ENOUGH WITH THE DONUTS ALREADY

Anti-Resolution: Donuts in Beer Form

Brewers use yeast. Donut bakers use yeast. Just imagine the synergies. Like the upcoming donut-inspired beers from the mad scientists at GBD and Bluejacket. So far, they’ve brewed a beer based on GBD’s apple cider and a beer based on Oreo donuts. But it’s probably not black and white.

Anti: Getting Candy in Your Drink
RESOLUTION: LAY OFF THE SWEETS

Anti: Getting Candy in Your Drink

You can get off the sugar in 2015. Meantime, feel free to continue seeking it out. Like in your drink. Here’s the Sell Me Candy cocktail at the Gibson, with Talisker Storm scotch, Bénédictine, burnt sugar syrup, caramel and egg. Bonus anti-resolution: have more eggs, too.

$13, available at The Gibson, 2009 14th St NW, 202-232-2156
