A new Filipino restaurant just opened in Oakland. It’s called Kainbigan. Which translates to “Let’s eat, my friends.” Which sounds about right, considering you’ll be eating pork adobo, chicken afritada and Spam with garlic fried rice and a fried egg. Oakland always has the best Spam.
It goes like this. You walk into that little brewpub in the Mission called Cerveceria de MateVeza. You ask for a growler of beer like their Yerba Mate IPA or Sin Limon hefeweizen. They give it to you. You leave with it. You... no, that’s basically how it goes.
There’s a block party on 20th this weekend. Flour + Water will be open for lunch for the first time ever. They’ll also have live music and a “booze garden” from the Trick Dog guys. Guess you get to make a joke about your martini thumb now.
Sunday is as good a day as any for chefs and butchers from over 25 Bay Area restaurants to converge upon the Fairmont and dispense exorbitant amounts of bacon upon you. And for over 20 breweries to dispense exorbitant amounts of beer upon you. Yep. As good a day as any.
