Things to do for June 05, 2013

The Weekender

Casablanca, Tequila Push Pops and 15 Gallons of Manhattans

The weekend is brought to you by the letter L and the number 9.

Wednesday
Whiskey and Grilling. The End.
QUALITY ROOFING

Whiskey and Grilling. The End.

What you love about Jack Rose’s rooftop: the grill. And the opportunities for alfresco whiskey-ing. What you hate: that it’s not always open. Check that last one. Now it is. Also: they’re rolling out a new skewers menu with chili-maple pork belly, Old Bay shrimp and “Magical” Shrooms.

Rooftop now open nightly; half-price skewers Mon-Fri, 5-7:30pm; Jack Rose Dining Saloon, 2007 18th St NW, 202-588-7388

Thursday
Just a Strawberry-Tequila Push Pop
PUSH IT REAL GOOD

Just a Strawberry-Tequila Push Pop

Gelato and sorbet. So far, so good. Salted caramel gelato and strawberry-tequila sorbet. Better. Those tequilas and sorbets in push pop form. Best. Dolcezza’s got them at three different farmers’ markets this weekend and all summer. Yes, bring a cooler.

Friday
Movies in a Brewer’s Courtyard
BOGIE AND BERGMAN

Movies in a Brewer’s Courtyard

The Heurich House isn’t just the mansion built by DC’s most famous brewer. It’s now your open-air movie theater. On Friday nights, take a blanket and some choice provisions to the courtyard while they fire up the projector. First up this week: Casablanca. You’ll always have the brewer’s mansion.

Fridays, Jun 7-Jul 12, 8pm, no cost, Heurich House Museum, 1307 New Hampshire Ave NW, 202-429-1894

Saturday
A Rock Show + a Bus
MAGIC BUS

A Rock Show + a Bus

The good news: live music. Open air. On the water. The bad news: well, getting to Baltimore. Here to help: this outfit, which will pick you (and your groupies) up downtown in a wi-fi-equipped bus, drop you off at Pier Six for the show and get you back. “Tiny Dancer” sing-along on the way home: yes.

Next Wednesday
Sampling 15 Gallons of Manhattans
BARREL ROLL

Sampling 15 Gallons of Manhattans

As for Rye Bar’s first batch of barrel-aged Manhattans, it went... quickly. So be there when they tap the newest batch—15 gallons of rye, sweet vermouth and quinquina—and get some gratis oxtail potato skins and rye-cured salmon while you’re at it. Soon, everything will be cured in rye.
