Another Reason to Get to Daikaya Early

Yeah, we know: it’s tough to get a seat at Daikaya’s new upstairs izakaya. Best to get there early. Also because if you do, there’s now $4 drafts, $6 shochu punch and $3 appetizers like fried blowfish, miso-cheddar fondue and fried shishito peppers. Time to start scheduling 5pm meetings here.

Dinner with a Side of Beautiful Women

Guess who’s coming to dinner. Right, Salma Hayek, Penélope Cruz, Kate Winslet and Catherine Deneuve, to name a few. For the next six weeks, Ici at the Sofitel hosts a photo exhibition of iconic women by Gilles Bensimon. Yes, they still have food as well.

Saturday
A Month of Gratis Fly-Fishing Lessons
CAST AND CREW

A Month of Gratis Fly-Fishing Lessons

Time to grill some fish. Step 1: get yourself a fish. Step 1/2: head to Orvis, as they teach you how to do that. All their local stores are hosting free fly clinics, in which you’ll start with the basics inside before going outside to cast. Come back the next week, and they’ll take you to the water. Which hopefully has fish.

Sat-Sun through Jun 16, no cost, Orvis, see exact dates and times at local stores here

ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH

The Oysters That Don’t Come from Water

Now that you’ve gone all A River Runs Through It, it’s time to go truly native. For the ninth year, the Montana State Society is taking over an American Legion hall and providing all-you-can-handle country music, Crown Royal, beer... and Rocky Mountain oysters. So, how much can you handle...

May 18, 6-10pm, $25 ($30 at door), American Legion, 3445 N Washington Blvd, Arlington, VA, tickets here

Soundbites Turns 9:30 into a Food Fest

We admit, sampling gourmet nibbles from the likes of Del Campo, Pearl Dive and Red Apron Butchery and cocktails from top bartenders isn’t the most rock-and-roll thing you can do. But hey, it’s a Sunday afternoon, and you’re hanging around 9:30 Club listening to seven local artists. So cut your bad self a break.
