The Weekender

DC Punk, a Beer Race and an Entire Week of BBQ

The weekend needs heated underwear.

Thursday
Tix on Sale for Corcoran’s Pump Me Up
ROLLINS ROCK

Tix on Sale for Corcoran’s Pump Me Up

Next month, the Corcoran opens an exhibit on DC’s underground go-go and punk scene in the ’80s. And wouldn’t you know it: you can rub elbows with Henry Rollins as he opens the exhibit from the DJ booth. Expect cocktails, concert posters, video and graffiti. But leave your spray cans at home.

Saturday
A 1K Race, Fueled by Beer
FOR THE CAUSE

A 1K Race, Fueled by Beer

Q: What would it take to get you to be a mall walker? A: Beer. And with that, you’ll head to the Crystal City Shops (underground, heated) to tackle a not-very-challenging 1K course, where “hydration stations” will be pouring nearly 50 beers along the route. Try not to get a cramp.

Sunday
Meat Week Returns. Here’s the Rundown.
EIGHT DAYS OF MEAT

Meat Week Returns. Here’s the Rundown.

The Super Bowl draws near. Which means so do eight days of BBQ-themed pregame known as Meat Week. You’ll make the rounds each night to a different ’cue joint (including a couple of newcomers) and wind up your week next Sunday in a Safeway parking lot. Call it the Super Safeway.

Monday
Invasive Species. Also: John Riggins.
BAY INVADERS

Invasive Species. Also: John Riggins.

When life gives you an invasive fish, eat it. Eight chefs are coming together for this feast of local oysters, Flying Dog beer and—most notably—snakeheads and other invasive species. Plus John Riggins will be on hand, so be sure to ask him what to do with invasive Cowboys fans.

The Inn at Little Washington’s Hits
INN KEEPING

The Inn at Little Washington’s Hits

Here’s a handy excuse to beat the Valentine’s Day crowds: next week, the Inn turns 35, and they’ve put together a 10-course menu with some of their all-time greatest hits—veal three ways from their opening night, truffle-stuffed pheasant and the dessert sampler known as Seven Deadly Sins. Which brings us back to Valentine’s Day.
