Things to do for March 08, 2012

The Weekender

Fried Chicken, Firehouse Parties and Ham-Wrapped Oysters

The weekend can appreciate a good time change.

Thursday
The Roots Firehouse Art Show
POSTER CHILD

The Roots Firehouse Art Show

On the surface, metallic-inked rock-and-roll posters and a now-defunct 95-year-old firehouse might not have much in common. But tonight’s festivities aim to bridge that gap with rereleased and limited-edition rock posters, two bands and Irish fare from the Éire Trea truck parked outside. Fire trucks have nothing on these guys.

Mar 8, 6-9pm, no cost, Firehouse 8, 1648 Pacific Ave (at Polk), 415-265-0552

Pop-Up Happy Hour with Grilled Cheese
AMERICAN BEAUTY

Pop-Up Happy Hour with Grilled Cheese

Since this grilled-cheese hub normally closes at 3pm, you’ll want to take advantage of their one-night-only extravaganza. Pac Brew Labs’ beer-making duo will take over, and you’ll get to pair Squid Ink and Nautilus brews with the likes of Mac n Cheese Grilled Cheese. If you’re going to go, you should go all out.

Chronicle Books Grand Opening
BY THE BOOK

Chronicle Books Grand Opening

While you probably could’ve written the Ultimate Book of Jokes, you would never write the Ultimate Book of Jokes. But you’ll be a good sport and check it out along with others like The Book of Beer Pong at the new Chronicle Books outpost in the Metreon. You’ll get 20% off everything in the store—which, along with your beer-pong winnings, starts to add up.

Monday
Pork-and-Oyster Dinners at Hog & Rocks
ROCK STEADY

Pork-and-Oyster Dinners at Hog & Rocks

Over the next six Mondays, when you slip into Hog & Rocks, you’ll be presented with a four-course meal that leans heavily on the oyster-and-pig side of things. Expect temptations from Aqua vet George Morrone, like fried oysters, salad with bacon vin and ham-wrapped oysters. And thus a new ham preparation enters your life.

Mondays through Apr 16, Hog & Rocks, 3431 19th St (at Mission), 415-550-8627

Tuesday
Angry Man Eats Party. We’ll Explain.
ANGER MANAGEMENT

Angry Man Eats Party. We’ll Explain.

In honor of their one-year mark, the good burger-slinging, cherry-pie-milkshake-making people at Greenburger’s are hosting the debut of the Angry Man Eats pop-up. There won’t be any burger-slinging, but along with said milkshakes, you’ll find heaps of fried chicken, waffles and hushpuppies. In other words, you still come out ahead.

Mar 13, 7-9pm, Greenburger’s, 518 Haight St (at Fillmore), 415-829-2491
