Things to do for August 11, 2011

The Weekender

The weekend is an excellent listener.

60% Off C’H’C’M’

Acting like a gentleman never goes out of style. So you’ll continue to hold doors open, help little old women cross the street and—when C’H’C’M’ puts their immaculately made/well-mannered chambray shorts, striped pullovers and oxford polos on sale—say thank you.

Friday
The One-Man Ice Cream Cake
SUNDAE TIMES

The One-Man Ice Cream Cake

Happy birthday. Or not. Either way, you’re getting a cake. Your friends at Quality Meats have reopened their summer ice cream cake sundae bar. And this year they’ve stocked it with toasted banana s’mores and yuzu-iced strawberry shortcake hunks large enough to pass as a meal. For a family of seven.

Through the end of August, Quality Meats, 57 W 58th St, 212-371-7777

Saturday
A Gallery on Wheels

A Gallery on Wheels

The Met. The Louvre. The back of a moving truck. This weekend, all viable spots for a cultural fix of fine art. See, the folks behind Show and Tell, a mobile museum of sorts, have loaded up an oversized white van with gallery pieces from around the world. And one pine tree air freshener.

Tuesday
The Third Coming of 2nd Ave
RYE WAY

The Third Coming of 2nd Ave

You’re used to finding 2nd Ave Deli on, well, not 2nd Ave. So we’re assuming the adjustment period to their new UES location will be a short one. After all, the lean pastrami, matzo ball soup and cinnamon rugelach recipes remain exactly the same. It’s the gefilte fish you’ve got to worry about.

Opens Aug 16, 2nd Ave Deli, 1442 1st Ave (on the corner of 75th)

Wednesday
Wayne’s World in the Park
SCHWING STATE

Wayne’s World in the Park

If there were ever a movie that deserved its own outdoor screening extravaganza in McCarren Park, it’s Wayne’s World. The film, which will start playing for free at dusk, will be preceded by a live concert, a food truck armada and a moment of silence for Tia Carrere’s career. Obviously, you’ll want to arrive early.

Aug 17, gates at 6pm, Summerscreen at McCarren Park, Bedford Ave and N 12th St, Brooklyn
