The Thing About Ning

Your New Midtown Roof Bar

With a mini-run on rooftop scenes above 42nd Street, and more to come next week, you could say things are working out quite nicely this spring...

OK then: Things are working out quite nicely this spring.

Introducing Salon de Ning, the newly remodeled Peninsula Hotel roofdeck lounge set to take over as your go-to spot for Orientalist al fresco lounging, post-work drinks or a date with a view, opening Friday.

In its former incarnation as Pen-Top, the roof was the heady combination of Astroturf and million-dollar views. While the view remains top-drawer—with sight lines to the Hudson (and into the MoMA sculpture garden) from the West Terrace and a classic skyline view from the East Terrace—everything else has changed. And we mean everything.

Enter through the lobby of The Peninsula, call the direct access elevator across from reception and you'll walk out into a shock of Chinoiserie—everything in the three main areas (the aforementioned terraces and the glass-enclosed bar) is built to resemble the salon of a jet-setting, eccentric, 1930's Shanghai socialite named Madame Ning. There's art hanging upside down on the ceiling, daybeds and lounge furniture outdoors and the requisite black marble and red lacquer everything.

And the drinks match—grab a couple Ning Slings and settle infor a sunset cocktail that's guaranteed to seal any deal you might be working on.

Because no one can resist the power of a Ning Sling at sunset.
