Things to do for March 30, 2011

The Weekender

Cheerleaders, Bar Bites and Nothing but Steak

The weekend has that look in its eye.

Wednesday
A Restaurant That Serves Only Steak
SEEING RED

A Restaurant That Serves Only Steak

Bad news: there’s only one thing on the menu at this new Cleveland Park eatery. The good news: it’s prime sirloin steak, and it’s from the guy behind BGR The Burger Joint. They’ll also throw in bread, salad and frites for less than 20 bucks. Just don’t ask for the salad well done.

Now open, Medium Rare, 3500 Connecticut Ave NW, 202-237-1437

Friday
Small Plates Pairings at J&G Wine Bar
NINE BITES

Small Plates Pairings at J&G Wine Bar

And speaking of eliminating tough decisions, the dark, lower-level wine bar at J&G Steakhouse is rolling out nine scaled-down versions of its top dishes, each paired with a taste of wine. Think bacon-wrapped shrimp with chardonnay and rack of lamb with tempranillo. You can commit now.

Saturday
Brunching Outside with a DJ
THE DOUGIE

Brunching Outside with a DJ

On your usual brunch tick sheet: Bloody Mary, check. Benedict, check. DJ and dancing, not so much. Until now, as Cities kicks off its brunch (and its enormous outdoor patio) with an all-afternoon dance party. Careful you don’t get a cramp.

Sunday
Redskins Cheerleader Final Tryouts
CHEER HERE

Redskins Cheerleader Final Tryouts

The 2011 Redskins Cheerleader squad is nearly set. Also: you’ll be around when it is. At this afternoon show, the final contenders will be judged on “appearance, performance in dance routines, ability to entertain and photogenic ability.” Which is coincidentally also how you choose your interns.

Apr 3, 1-4pm, $15, The State Theatre, 220 N Washington St, more info here

Monday
60 Chefs + 10 Bartenders = ...
BIG TASTE

60 Chefs + 10 Bartenders = ...

After a weekend of all-day brunch and cheerleaders, you’ll have one thing on your mind: continued excess. Enter Taste of the Nation, where 60 chefs prep small plates and 10 mixologists, well, mix. There’ll also be a steak-cooking contest, which should tide you over until at least Wednesday.

Apr 4, 7-10pm, National Building Museum, 401 F St NW, tickets here
