The digs: A stunning private game lodge smack-dab in the middle of South Africa’s Kruger National Park.
The extras: Game drives, bush walks and stargazing, all led by your personal ranger. Locating the Milky Way in the southern hemisphere can be tricky.
What you’ll do here: Venture into the Blyde River Canyon, the third-largest canyon in the world, for a day hike.

Rhino Ridge Safari Lodge

The digs: The first private lodge to open within Africa’s oldest proclaimed game reserve.
The extras: An 11-meter infinity lap pool. And every November here, a festival where 30,000 maidens present themselves to the Zulu king.

The digs: 10 tented suites built in tree canopies on an animal conservancy in Namibia.
The extras: Access to over 74,000 acres of land for canoeing, fishing and the like. Oh, and it’s the area’s only approved lodge for nighttime game drives.
What you’ll do here: Everything. Except maybe sleep.

The digs: A roving camp with house-size tents that move with the game in Tanzania.
The extras: A shoe-cleaning service. A personal tent valet. Gravity-fed showers. You know, typical African-national-park stuff.
What you’ll do here: Track the wildebeests during their migration season.

The digs: A newly renovated tent camp located below Mount Kilimanjaro in Kenya. It was founded in 1910 by a British aristocrat.
The extras: A cigar lounge, a theater, a spa and fitness center, a library, a lookout tower...
